A North Bay man was released from prison last week after conspiracy to commit murder charges against him were dropped.

A no-contact order has been issued as part of his release, preventing the man from having contact with those he was allegedly planning to kill, including three adults and a young boy.

The original charges against the man stemmed from information give to police by a jailhouse informant, who turned out to be an unsavory and unreliable witness.  Information received from an untrustworthy witness must be supported by a credible and independent source in order to be used as evidence in court.  This information did not meet these requirements, and the charges against the man were dropped.
