In 2011, San Diego ranked second behind L.A. in the number of dog bites recorded by the United States Postal Service. While this number has gone down over the past couple of years, San Diego remains one of the Top 10 Cities with the most dog bites.
The weather may be to blame, as the warmer climate encourages dog owners to be outside more with their dogs. Any dog can bite- it is their way of protecting their territory. If your dog bites someone, you can be held liable for any damage caused by the dog. If you’re going outside with your dog, even if he is docile and friendly, keep him on a leash to avoid altercations. The Postal Service, for one, will thank you.
What do you think? Are dog bites on the rise? Who should be held responsible in the case of a dog bite?
